Tomato + Blender = Soup!

That’s right folks, today I put a tomato in a blender.  It turned pink.

What a lazy Saturday!  I couldn’t face going into school — I need at least a day off before I head in tomorrow to get my centers together.

Here’s to lazy Saturdays, and even lazier food.

B-Fast!  I made baked pumpkin oats a la Tina at Carrots ‘N Cake.  Here’s what I did:

Mixed together,

1 egg white

2 spoonfulls of pumpkin

a splash of water

a 1/4 tsp of baking powder

Microwaved for 2 minutes

BOOM! Pumpkin Oats!

With some delish green tea with spearmint.

When I ate this leftover egg drop wanton soup I was fairly certain it was my lunch.  After all, it was around noon, I generally think of soup as a “meal”, and I felt quite full afterward.  Also, I have had a headache all day — and I NEVER get headaches. Can copious amounts of MSG cause this?  Because I have had massive amounts of MSG today — you’ll see!

BUUUUUUUT, about an hour later I was again hungry.  I knew I didn’t want to eat the rest of my chinese food yet so I looked around to see what else we had.  Half a loaf of italian bread and a tomato.  Here’s how it went down:

I looked at the tomato, I looked at the blender, I looked back at the tomato.  Kellen said, “I’m pretty sure that won’t work”.  Then I proceeded to cut up the tomato and put it into the blender.

After a fair amount of blending, my mixture looked pink.  I figured I’d better look up a recipe to help me.  So, in my Betty Crocker Cookbook I look up tomato soup.  This is basically what it said,

“Add 2 cans of chopped tomatoes and 2 cans of tomato soup to a pot and warm.”

*Imagine my mouth opened as wide as it will go in shock and horror*

Dear Betty,

If I had canned tomato soup I wouldn’t be making a last-ditch effort to make it with a tomato and a blender.

So, I then chopped some onion, through in some paprika, basil, and garlic salt, and poured in my tomato puree.  It was probably the best tomato soup of all times.  I kid you not!  Here it is with an amazing grilled cheese:

That's balsamic vinegar on the top. Yum-times!

I couldn’t finish all the soup — so that will likely be my lunch tomorrow while I’m toiling away at school.

And the grand finale *drumroll* re-heated chinese food! And there is still a massive amount left!

Also, we watched 500 Days of Summer tonight ….. here comes a spoiler (kind of):  I like Autumn better.

Happy Saturday!

Your tomato soup looks fabulously delicious & just like homemade tomato soup should look. Tomato in blender sounds makes perfectly good sense & what I would’ve done. Why would n-e-1 want canned soup when homemade is so much better??
